I have come to realize that living at the Solara is kind of like dating someone. At first the experience is amazing; everything is new and exciting. You enjoy spending time with each other and you…

After living in three different apartment models within Solara, I can say that Solara can only be noted for its mediocrity. The common areas, (hot tub/sauna/pool, movie theater, gym, computer room,…

The Solara bills itself as an "urban oasis", which works. It's a semi-lux apartment complex located smack dab in the middle of Lake City proper near the border to the ever pleasant Shoreline area. Instantly recognizable for it's gaudy blue on yellow on gray exterior color scheme, the Solara offers a more upscale housing option with a reasonably advantageous location.Lake City has definitely gotten better in the past few years, as more businesses have moved into the area to jazz it up. LCW stalwarts like Toyoda Sushi and Mad Pizza anchor the food chain while newer Thai restaurants sprout up along the well-traveled boulevard. Solara residents are within easy walking distance of these great eateries, along with both a QFC and a Fred Meyer. Sitting right on the major bus line is wonderful for commuters and UW students.Regardless, it's still Lake City. The area's transformation isn't quite complete and it occasionally shows. Solara sits right in between the charming Lake City Bar and Grill to the west, and low-income housing to the east.As for the Solara decor, it's modern and chic in an Ikea 1 sort of way. While the exterior may be a bit gaudy, the interior public areas are warmly decorated with a modern aesthetic. The gym and public lounges located along the courtyard (a very cool courtyard) are great. Large secured parking garage is also a plus for the non-bus commuter.
